George W. "Mr. Tiger" Schlegel III, 71, Country Club Lane, Hopkinsville, KY, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center, Hopkinsville, KY of natural causes.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2022 at Lamb Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022 at the funeral home.
A native of Hopkinsville, KY, he was born September 24, 1950, the son of the late George W. Schlegel II and the late Martha (Boyd) Schlegel.
George was a graduate of Hopkinsville High School Class of 1968. He later attended Montreat University, before returning to Hopkinsville where he worked at Sominco Farms and Farmers Loose Floor.
He was an avid fan of the Hopkinsville High School Tigers. No matter where the team was playing, you were guaranteed to see him at the game in his Hopkinsville High School tiger gear or on the sidelines at one of the practices. Even when he struggled with his mobility, he made every effort to be at the games. He and Suzy were dedicated to supporting the athletes and supported many of the student athletes as if they were their own.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Suzy Schlegel, Hopkinsville, KY; his sister, Martha “Marby” Schlegel, Lexington, KY; his nephew, Walton Smith, Great Falls, VA; his niece, Nancy Smith Goldman, Ashville, NC; and his sister-in-law, Sandy Russell (Robert) Bryant, Todd County, KY; his great-nieces, Isabella Smith, Elizabeth Smith, and Clara Goldman; his great-nephews, George and Walton Goldman; and his beloved cats, dogs, and birds.
