Robert "Bob" Gordon Horn, M.D., 88, John Allen Road, Cornersville, Tennessee, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, Tennessee of natural causes. 

A private family graveside service was today, Saturday, January 25, 2020, at Powell Cemetery. Lamb Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.

A native of Davidson County, Tennessee, he was born on December 17, 1931, the son of the late Wiley Weathers Horn, Sr and the late Patsy (Gordon) Horn.

Robert graduated from Central High School, Nashville, TN, as Valedictorian. After high school, he earned his BA degree from Vanderbilt University, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa. He was a Pathologist M.D.. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1954. After graduation he served his residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the Pathology Department. He then became an officer for US Public Health Service at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland for 5 years. In 1965, he accepted a faculty position at Vanderbilt's Department of Pathology, where he obtained the first funded laboratory for Electron Microscoby. During his 15 years at Vanderbilt, Robert taught, did research, and practiced pathology as a full professor. He received the Shovel Award in 1975 for distinguished teaching for medical students at Vanderbilt University. In 1981, he went into private practice at a large community hospital in Nashville, TN where he continued kidney biopsy pathology. In 1985, Robert opened the first independent laboratory for kidney biopsy pathology in Nashville, TN, where he stayed until he retired in 2016. He was also an author of numerous research papers that have been published in journals and the author of Henry Horn of Contentnea Creek.

Survivors include his beloved companion of 40 years, Lilia D. Mauricio, M.D., Cornersville, TN; his former spouse, Betty Waddell Horn, Franklin, TN; his son, David (Cindy) Horn, Brentwood, TN; his daughters, Laura Katherine (Jeffery) Robertson, Nashville, TN, Cynthia (Richard) Chavez, Franklin, TN, Sarah (Jeff) Holmes, Nashville, TN; his brothers, Wiley (Nina) Horn Jr. and Phil Horn both of Hopkinsville; and 4 grandchildren, Gordon Vincent Chavez, Warner Maxwell Chavez, Frances Rae Horn and Tillman Louis Horn.
